(a) Location:- Mawsynram Dev. Block is located at 25º.18’ latitude and 91º 35’ E Longitude.
(b) Area:- Its total geographical area is 61,450 hectares.
(c) Boundary:-
(d) Topography:- To the North, Northeast, Northwest and half of the middle parts of the Block lies the big plateau which form a part of the southern parts of the Great Meghalayan Plateau. Here and there, there are small hillocks and peaks in this plateau, Symper Peak and Kyrphei Peak are amongst the highest peaks with Tourist spot not only within the Block but in the East Khasi Hills District as a whole. To the east, south-west, west and half of the middle parts of the Block the land is of slope type sloping from the plateau to the plain areas of Bangladesh, These areas are called by the local people "Riwar" and its climatic and soil condition is favourable for Horticulture. To the south-east and southern parts of the Block lies the plain areas bordering Bangladesh.
(e) Soil:- Most of the soil in the Northern high plateau consists of sandy and sandy stone soil. In some of the low lying areas there is sandy loam and sandy day soil. In the sloping areas called Riwar there is a mixture of sandy soil, sandy loam and clay loam soil which in the plain areas bordering Bangladesh there is sandy clay loam soil, silty, silty clay loam, clay loam and sandy loam soil.
(f ) Rivers:- There are only two main rivers in the Block, the Umngi River in the west and Umiam River in the East both flowing towards Bangladesh.
(g) Lakes:- Not available.
(h) Wasteland:- Most of the waste land in the Block are located in the high plateau Region.
